<p>Disclosed is an illuminating device wherein heat dissipating performance is ensured, while suppressing deterioration of luminance. A backlight device (12) is provided with: a cold-cathode tube (18), i.e., a light source having an electrode section (18b) in an end portion (18E); a chassis (14) which houses the cold-cathode tube (18); and a lamp holder (20), i.e., a cover member, which extends along one side (in the short side direction) of the chassis (14), and covers the end portion (18E) of the cold-cathode tube (18). In the lamp holder (20), openings (26), which are opened on the center side of the cold-cathode tube (18), are formed, and the lamp holder (20) is formed such that at least in one end portion (a first end portion (20A) and/or second end portion (20B)) in the extending direction of the lamp holder (20), the opened area of each opening (26) is formed larger than the opened area of each opening in the center portion (20C).</p> |
