PURPOSE: Apparatus and method for protecting a battery pack are provided to improve the safety of the battery pack by rapidly sensing the leakage of electrolyte to the outside. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(100) for protecting a battery pack comprises: an electrolyte absorption member(110) which absorbs the electrolyte leaked from a cell and has a conductor property through electrolyte absorption; a power supply unit(120) which is connected to both ends of the electrolyte absorption member and applies the power; a resistance unit(130) connected between the electrolyte absorption member and the and power supply unit; a sensor(140) sensing the current flowing the resistance unit; and a control unit(150) for cutting off current flows by fusing a fuse.
