A method for unloading inventory items (30) includes storing an inventory item (30) on an inventory holder (22) and moving the inventory holder (22) toward an unloading station (40) with a mobile drive unit (20). Additionally, the method includes moving the inventory holder (22) past a barrier (42) of the unloading station (40). The method further includes preventing the inventory item (30) from moving past the barrier (42) as the mobile drive unit (20) moves the inventory holder (22) past the barrier (42).
