PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of improving durability of a rope brake of a high consumption degree by further limiting an operation frequency of the rope brake. SOLUTION: This elevator device includes an electromagnetic brake 7 for braking a hoisting machine 3 in operation, and the rope brake 8 for braking by gripping a rope in the operation, and an electromagnetic brake control part 40 operates the electromagnetic brake in response to operation output of a safety device 30 when the safety device 30 detects abnormality of elevator respective parts. An electromagnetic brake operation detecting means 9 detects that the electromagnetic brake 7 operates. Though a rope brake control part 50 operates the rope brake 8 on condition of an nonoperable state of the electromagnetic brake 7 in response to the operation output of the safety device 30, the operation output to the rope brake 8 is locked when detecting the operation of the electromagnetic brake 7.
