PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide footwear which alleviates burden on the knees, the crotch and the like when a user goes up and down stairs and which takes safety in the going up and down into consideration, without repairing the stairs. SOLUTION: The foot wear for assisting a user in going up and down stairs is configured such that a small footstool (1) is prepared that corresponds to roughly one half of the height of one step of stairs, and as a general rule, it is made to wear on one foot that is impaired, and further in order to secure safety, the footwear is provided with a material (3) having both cushioning and non-skid properties and with a preventive device (6) for slipping and falling.
