In the provided glass welding method, illumination by laser light (L) melts a glass layer (3), and in areas in glass substrates (40, 50) that are along a planned weld region (R), temperature differentials arise wherein the temperatures of principal surfaces (40a, 50a) on the side of the glass layer (3) become higher than the temperatures of principal surfaces (40b, 50b) on the opposite sides from the glass layer (3). The molten glass layer (3) then solidifies and the cooling causes stresses to occur in the glass substrates (40, 50). At this point, an initial crack (8) is formed in one of the glass substrates (50) so as to overlap the glass layer (3) when seen from the thickness direction of the glass substrates (40, 50), so the crack extends across the glass layer (3) in the thickness direction of the glass substrates (40, 50), starting from the initial crack (8). Thus, the glass substrates (40, 50) can be split apart and also welded along the planned weld region (R).
|
