The method involves installing an exhaust gas sensor in an exhaust tract of an internal-combustion engine of a vehicle, and heating the sensor. Oxygen concentration is measured after heating the sensor for calibration. Heating and calibration of the sensor are executed by measuring the oxygen concentration in air present in the exhaust tract when the engine is in an idle condition. Heating of the sensor is executed by an electrical heating element i.e. heating wire, of the gas sensor. An independent claim is also included for a calibration device for calibration of an exhaust gas sensor.
