<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting method for a steel for machine structural use having excellent cutting-tool life under a wide cutting speed range in spite of any mode such as continuous cutting and intermittent cutting and under various cutting environments such as use of cutting oil, dry cutting, semi-dry cutting, and an oxygen-rich environment. <P>SOLUTION: In the cutting method for the steel for machine structural use, the steel includes, by mass%, 0.01-1.2% C, 0.005-3.0% Si, 0.05-3.0% Mn, 0.0001-0.2% P, 0.0001-0.35% S, 0.0005-0.035% N, and 0.05-1.0% Al, satisfies relationship of [Al%]-(27/14)×[N%]≥0.05%, and the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurity. The steel is cut with a cutting tool in which metal oxide having a value of standard formation free energy at 1,300°C beyond the value of the Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is coated on the surface coming in contact with a cut material, and thus, an Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>film is formed on the surface of the cutting tool. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
