<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch a device that is an object to be operated in accordance with a position pointed by a remote control device having a function as a pointing device for operating a video display device and a video output device by using one remote control device. <P>SOLUTION: The video display device receives a broadcast wave and also receives external video data output by the video output device, and synthesizes and displays the data, and transmits information showing an external video display area 320 to the video output device. When the remote control device functioning as the pointing device points the outside of the display area 320, the video display device is controlled according to display by a pointer and control information from the remote control device.
