<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound signal processing apparatus and method which apply down mix processing to a two-channel stereo sound signal by which sound image localization close to surround reproduction intended by a producer is obtained when sound field expansion processing is performed. <P>SOLUTION: The sound signal processing apparatus includes: an amplitude adjustment part which adjusts amplitude by multiplying each of sound signal of the multi-channel sound signal by a predetermined coefficient; an addition part which adds each of the amplitude-adjusted sound signal together to generate stereo L/R sound signals; and a sound processing unit which applies the sound field expansion processing to the stereo L/R sound signals so that a surround sound field is formed when the stereo L/R sound signals are reproduced by a stereo speaker, wherein the amplitude adjustment part sets the coefficients so that ratio between the coefficient by which the sound signals to be added together for generating the stereo L sound signal are multiplied and the coefficient by which the sound signals to be added together for generating the stereo R sound signal are multiplied shows a value close to 1 as an angle to be formed by a direction of a speaker by which reproduction of the sound signals is intended and the front direction of a listening position is small. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
