<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based functional ink with which a high quality printing can be achieved on a hydrophobic recording medium or a printing book paper and so forth without ink mixture, and images excellent in glossiness, abrasion resistance and adhesion can be formed, and which is excellent in injection stability and the recoverability in maintenance as well, and to provide an image forming method using the water-based functional ink. <P>SOLUTION: This water-based functional ink contains a resin of which the acid value is not less than 50 and less than 120, and of which the weight average molecular amount is from 20,000 to 100,000.
