PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a load of a mattress from being always applied to a sensor sheet of a load sensor laid under the mattress, and to eliminate the need for minor adjustments due to the weight of the mattress or temperature changes. SOLUTION: The load sensor for a mattress that is laid under the mattress for detecting a load is constituted to include: a sensor sheet composed of a sheet body whose electric resistance value varies with pressurization; a cover plate composed of a thin plate covering the top face of the sensor sheet; and a support member composed of an elastic body deforming by the load. When the load applied to the top face of the cover plate is not more than a predetermined value, the support member holds the cover plate in such manner that the cover plate is in contact with or floating above the sensor sheet, so as not to apply the load to the sensor sheet; and when the load applied to the cover plate exceeds the predetermined value, the support member holds the cover plate in such manner that the cover plate is in contact with the sensor sheet, so as to apply the load to the sensor sheet.
