A conductor attached to a semi-conductor element within a housing is secured to the housing at its point of emergence by argon-arc welding. In the device shown in Fig. 1 a silicon junction element 10 is mounted between rigid conductor 12 and a plate 100 attached to base member 11. Plate 100 and the upstanding ring 14 formed on conductor 12 are attached to the flanged portions of casing parts 18, 19 by argon arc welding after which the housing is evacuated and back-filled with protective gas and tubule 20 sealed off. The end of conductor 12 may comprise a portion similar to 14 through which it is argon-arc welded into a flanged aperture in a connector. Alternatively the conductor may have a flexible termination. |
