In an integral R-C component, Fig. 2, a rolled foil capacitor 32 has resistive material 34 applied to its surface in contact with its terminal leads 36, 38 to provide resistance and capacitance in parallel. Other R-C combinations are provided by modifications. By suitable choice of resistive and dielectric materials, a measure of temperature compensation of impedance is obtained. Capacitor construction. Fig. 3.-Tin foils 42. 44 are staggered and rolled with intermediate plastic or paper dielectric film 46, the latter being over.wrapped several times at 48. Leads may be connected by soldering, but are preferably heated and forced diametrically through the roll of foil and dielectric near each end, so fusing the dielectric and malting good contact with one or the other foil. Resistor construction.--Resistive material 34 is adhesive-taped, evaporated, sputtered or preferably sprayed or applied by dipping on. to the capacitor. Dipping is performed after the capacitor leads are affixed; spraying preferably precedes the connection of leads. Fig. 21 (not shown) depicts a plurality of capacitors 86 adhesive-taped in spiral formation on a rotating and axially-moving drum 92 past a spray-gun 94 fed from a resistive resin supply 95. To prevent the leads cracking the resistive deposit, they may be disposed chordally to avoid the area of the deposit; alternatively, a low resistance plastic deposit may be sprayed on to the ends of the capacitors, prior to the main spraying step (Fig. 22, not shown) through which deposit the leads are passed. Finally a protective coating 40 is applied. Preferred resistive material, for layer 34.- 1050 gm. solvent based epoxy-melamine; 49�18 gm. coarse channel black; 21-07 gm. fine channel black; 216�8 gm. yellow stone talc; 157-5 gm. epoxy resin; 52-5 gm. polyamine. Curing: 150� C. for c. 24 hrs. Low resistance material may comprise solid epoxy resin in a solvent, a liquid epoxy resin, an inert filler, a curing agent, carbon, and optionally a plasticizer. Modifications.-A third foil 52d, Fig. 11 (not shown), may be included in the capacitor to co-operate with foils 42d and 44d respectively. A third lead 50d is provided for foil 52d; this lead may be insulated from resistive material 34d at 66, 68. Other R-C network constructions are described in the Specification.
