An underlay sheet is bonded to the backing fabric of a tufted carpet by pressing it into contact with the backing fabric on which there is a heated coating of a natural or synthetic rubber latex, and allowing the assembly to cool. The underlay sheet may consist of a foamed synthetic plastics material, e.g. polyurethane, or foamed rubber, felt, paper or a combination of felt and paper; and it may be preheated prior to laminating. The latex coating may be that which serves to anchor the tufts of the carpet.</p> |
