PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam separator which can suppress the increase in the pressure loss in swirlers even if the quality of the steam of a gas-liquid two-phase flow is low. SOLUTION: The steam separator derives the steam of the gas-liquid two-phase flow generated by boiling cooling water 110 with the heat generated in a reactor core 104 accommodated in a shroud 103 outside a shroud head 105 by way of stand pipes 3, centrifuges the steam by allowing swirlers 111 to impart swirling force to separate the steam into dry steam from which moisture content is removed and water as moisture content and releases the dry steam to a dryer 108. The swirlers 111 are set up inside cylindrical barrels 5, and the barrels 5 are set up separating from above the stand pipes 3 with the direction of the cylindrical axes in vertical direction.
