PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can perform release operation even in the state in which a release button cannot be pressed by hand. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes an acceleration detection part 6 for detecting acceleration in a first direction applied to a camera 10 and also detecting acceleration in a second direction different from the first direction. When it is determined that the detection output of the acceleration detection part 6 when a photographer 21 sticks his/her chest out has a peak value at timing t13 and is stabilized at timing t14 thereafter, the release operation is performed.
