PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-pierce rivet on which a metal film having excellent potentiometric corrosion resistance is coated and which does not cause the breakage of the film, the deterioration of the adhesiveness of the film or the like following the deformation during joining, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: A base material of iron or its alloy is used as a mother material, and a metal film of a columnar crystal structure is formed on its surface. In the method for manufacturing the metal film, a metal vapor-deposited film is deposited on the surface of the base material formed of iron or its alloy at an atmospheric pressure of 0.1-3.0 Pa, and at an average film deposition rate of 0.01-10 μm/min.
