PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element having a low drive voltage, high emission efficiency, and favorable drive durability. SOLUTION: Ionization potential of the main component of a light emitting layer 5 is defined as Ip (EML). Electron affinity is defined as Ea (EML). Ionization potential of the main component of an anode 2 side intervention layer is defined as Ip (1i). Electron affinity of the main component of a cathode 8 side intervention layer is defined as Ea (2i). Then, an organic electroluminescent element 10 satisfies a formula (1) of Ip (EML)-0.1 eV<Ip (1i)<Ip (EML)+0.1 eV and a formula (2) of Ea (EML)-0.1 eV<Ea (2i)<Ea (EML)+0.1 eV. When the hole mobility of the light emitting layer 5 is defined asμh and the electron mobility asμe, the organic electroluminescent element satisfies a formula (3) of 0.1≤μh/μe≤10 and contains≥0.5 mass% and≤20 mass% of a compound having an ionization potential smaller than Ip (EML) against all mass of the light emitting layer 5.
