Disclosed is a target gene for the anti-cancer activity of tocotrienol, which is useful for the development of anti-cancer agents, biomarkers (diagnostic agents) for diagnosing the efficacy or adaptability of anti-cancer agents, tailor-made foods and alternative medicines. Hic2 can be used as a target gene for the anti-cancer activity of tocotrienol. Hic2 can also be used as a biomarker for detecting the development of the anti-cancer activity of tocotrienol. When Hic2 is used as a biomarker, mRNA for Hic2 or a Hic2 protein in a cancer tissue is measured by a real-time PCR method, a DNA chip method, a protein chip method, an ELISA method or an immunochromatographic method to thereby qualitatively or quantitatively determine the expression amount of Hic2, and the availability of tocotrienol for a cancer patient can be determined on the basis of the expression amount. Alternatively, Hic2 can be used for the screening for a natural material, a food, a food component, a cosmetic or a medicine capable of varying the expression amount of mRNA for Hic2 or a Hic2 protein. |
