<p>When modulating light levels so as to track the scanning of a liquid crystal display or other screen display that has a partitioned backlight region, for example using local dimming technology, the provided light-emitting element drive device can drive a plurality of backlight horizontal line groups that have differing energization timing. A plurality of frame timing signals (EN1 to ENm) are distributed to drive channels, and pulse signals (P1 to Pn) with differing drive timing are generated, which then drive current-drive circuits (5Q1 to 5Qn), making it possible to divide an LED-driving current source into at least two groups (LED1 to LEDn), and also making it possible to start powering each group with its own timing. That is, it becomes possible to drive a plurality of backlight horizontal line groups that have differing energization timing.</p> |
