<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that smoothly alters a target angle of view by a manual operation during an automatic zooming operation without viewing incongruity due to the discontinuity of zooming speed caused in the start of the alteration. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes an automatic zooming function with a memory control means for storing the size of a detected subject into a memory as a reference value for zoom control, and further includes: a manually inputting means for altering a zooming magnification by manually inputting it; a means for detecting whether a manual input has been carried out by the manually inputting means when the alteration of the zooming magnification is controlled by automatic zooming; a means for converting an amount of manual input into an amount of zooming magnification control, based on a reference value stored in a memory at the time of detecting manual input or based on information about the zooming magnification control of a zoom control means obtained at the time of detecting the manual input.
