<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packing material for holding a heavy load, such as a transmission, in the attitude in which this heavy load is mounted on a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The packing material 3 is provided with a receiver 1 by which a transmission 2 with a flat portion at one end is held in the attitude where the transmission 2 is mounted in a vehicle. The receiver 1 has a recess 10 for holding a transmission 2 in the attitude where an imaginary vertical line L passing through the gravity center G of the transmission 2 does not pass through the flat portion of the transmission 2. The recess 10 holds the gravity center portion of the transmission 2 in the attitude where this portion is located close to the substantial center of the receiver 1 in the widthwise direction of the receiver. At least a pair of recesses 10 are formed on the receiver 1.
