PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polysaccharide derivative which becomes a hydrogel holding high viscoelasticity even when it is subjected to high pressure steam sterilization after mixture with water and is useful as an antiadhesive material, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: In the polysaccharide derivative, both aβ-alanine derivative and -CH<SB>2</SB>CONHY (Y denotes an alkyl group which has the number of carbons of 70 or less and may be substituted) are bonded to a side chain.
