PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply pattern coating into any shape, using a commercially available coating liquid to form a coating-liquid layer having a thickness within the range of several ten to several hundred micrometers with respect to substrates of various materials. SOLUTION: A coating apparatus C includes a roll 1 provided on the coated surface 4a side of the substrate 4, and a plate roll 2 provided on the back surface 4b side of the coated surface 4a, wherein the substrate 4 and the coating liquid 5 are fed from a gap between the roll 1 and the plate roll 2 while the coating liquid 5 is supplied to the coated surface 4a, and the coating-liquid layer 6 is formed. The peripheral surface of the plate roll 2 is formed with a required rough pattern 2b having projections 2a corresponding to the shape of uncoated regions 6a. Since the coating-liquid layer 6 is not formed at parts corresponding to the projections 2a, the pattern coating is applied into an optional shape. The kind of the coating liquid 5 or the substrate 4 is not limited. The coating-liquid layer 6 has a thickness adjusted by the height or the like of the projection 2a, within the range of several ten to several hundred micrometers. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
