In a vapour generator heated by hot gas which may be supplied by a nuclear reactor, and having a pre-heater I, the evaporator sections are connected so that the working medium to be evaporated passes through a first evaporator section II in the opposite direction and through a second evaporator section III generally in the same direction as the flow of hot gas. As shown, the working medium passes through the preheater I and a superheater IV generally in the opposite direction to the flow of hot gas. An additional superheater may be provided to reduce thermal loading on the superheater tubes. This additional superheater is located downstream of the superheater IV in respect of flow of working medium, and either upstream or downstream of the superheater IV in respect of flow of hot gas.
