<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal compound having a characteristic suitable for practical use. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to a compound having a linear row of not less than five benzene rings and two cross-linking units between the rings, and at least one of the unit representing -CF<SB>2</SB>O- cross-link.
