<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clearly display a floating piece (a jellyfish sign) which is likely to collapse before long within an instable plaque. <P>SOLUTION: Ultrasonic tomographic images 25 of sections including an axis of the carotid artery are successively acquired, and a plurality of ultrasonic tomographic images 25 are binarized by using such a threshold as to make the surface 48 of the instable plaque boundary of contrast. Difference is derived between corresponding pixels of two binarized ultrasonic tomographic images to extract floating pieces 52, and the extracted floating pieces 52 are superimposed and displayed on the ultrasonic tomographic image 25. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
