PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing alcohols useful as intermediates of drugs/agricultural chemicals and electronic materials. SOLUTION: The method for producing alcohols comprises reacting a carbonyl compound with boronic acids in the presence of a catalyst composed of a palladium compound and an imidazolinium salt represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen, a 2-6C alkyl group or a halogen and X<SP>-</SP>is a counter anion) and a base.
