PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance focusing accuracy, even when an object recognized from an image changes. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a photographing means to capture a photographing image in a predetermined viewing angle range; an autofocus means to automatically focus on the object in a focus area set in a photographing viewing angle range; an extracting means to extract the object from the photographing image; a detecting means to detect the change of the extracted object; a measuring means to measure the changing time of the extracted object; a control means to control the autofocus means to continuously operate when the change of the object in the focus area is detected; and a focus area changing means to change the focus area to another different focus area in the photographing viewing angle range when the changing time of the object in the focus area exceeds a predetermined time.
