PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device that is connectable to an external recording device connected with a connection terminal, and whose physical structure can be simplified, and to provide a setting method. SOLUTION: The recording device includes: the connection terminal where an external recording device formatted by a first file system or an external recording device that is formatted by a second file system is connected; and a setting means that formats the external recording device to the second file system and sets the external recording device as a video recording device.
