When coolant is retained in a thermal storage tank, coolant is injected from a coolant pathway to the thermal storage tank, and the thermal storage tank is pre-heated by means of the coolant injected into the thermal storage tank. After pre-heating is complete, additional coolant is injected from the coolant pathway to the thermal storage tank so that the coolant that is present within the thermal storage tank and which has a decreased temperature as a result of the pre-heating of the tank is returned to the coolant pathway, and the additionally injected coolant is retained in the thermal storage tank.
