PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for carrying out the subsequent photographing speedily. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging means for imaging a subject image passed through a photographic lens; a display means for displaying a live view of the subject image by use of image data from the imaging means (S1); and a focal point-detecting means for detecting a focal point by a contrast system using the image data from the imaging means (S3) during the live view using the display means. The apparatus includes: a subject information-detecting means for detecting subject information for recognizing a focusing state of the photographic lens relative to a subject; and a control means for carrying out exposure (S7) for a photographic image after the detection of the focal point by the focal point-detecting means, and causing the subject information-detecting means to detect subject information (S102) before the focal point-detecting means can detect a focal point again (S9 to S11).
