PURPOSE: A rechargeable lithium battery is provided to ensure endurance against external physical impact and excellent battery performances, and to enable high capacity. CONSTITUTION: A rechargeable lithium battery(1) includes: a positive electrode(3) containing a positive electrode active material capable of intercalation and de-intercalation of lithium; a negative electrode(2) including carbon-based negative electrode active material and a water-soluble binder; and a polymer electrolyte including a polymer, non-aqueous organic solvent and lithium salt. The polymer is such that a first monomer of chemical formula 1: A-U-B and a second monomer are mixed.
