Carrier of information bearing a watermark

An information carrier comprises rigid sheet and an opaque porous receiving layer containing a pigment and a binder which is rendered substantially transparent by penetration of lacquer. A cured varnish pattern is provided with image onto the receiving layer. A cured layer of lacquer again is provided on receiving layer with image, such that cured pattern of varnish forms an opaque watermark. An independent claim is also included for method of producing information carrier.
