A method and an apparatus for measuring a flow rate through a conduit, such as a pipeline. The method comprises providing a reference parameter, measuring a first parameter at a first position at the conduit and determining a difference between the first parameter and the reference parameter. The flow rate through the conduit is determined based on the difference between the first parameter and the reference parameter. The parameters may include a dimension of the conduit or a temperature. The figure shows a pipeline 10 exiting from the sea 2, alternatively the exit point 11 may be from the ground or soil. A first temperature 20 sensor may be arranged at a first position 12 in direct contact with the pipeline 10. A reference temperature sensor 25 may measure the temperature of the environment. The calculation unit 30 determines the difference between the temperatures from sensors 20 and 25 and from this determines the flow rate. |
