A double loop chain stitch seam is completed by repeated needle penetrations at the same place to prevent unravelling, followed by a final penetration at an adjacent point, after which the threads are severed beneath the work. In a group stitch sewing machine the work feeding control cam is modified to provide a final work shift after the pause for said repeated penetrations.
