A method of cleaning at least one part of a central heating or hot water system comprises adding an abrasive material to a flow path of the at least one part and circulating the abrasive material therethrough. The abrasive material may be soluble, non-corrosive, and comprised of granular material, powder or pellets. The abrasive material may be provided in a compact form to facilitate ease of storage and transport, wherein the abrasive material breaks down upon contact with water in the flow path. The circulation may be performed by a power flushing pump 2 or a conventional pump 5 of the central heating or hot water system. Parts of the system, such as a boiler 1 heat exchanger, radiator 4, hot water circuit 11, or length of pipe 3 may be isolated from the remainder of the system and cleaned using the method. |
