A picking stick is secured to a bracket, moving with the sley, by means which yield resiliently when the picket is struck at its rest position by the incoming shuttle. As shown the picking stick 11 is bolted to a diaphragm 25 fixed to the bracket 16, which may be mounted on the moving sley part 20 by two pivoted links 17, 18. In an alternative embodiment the picking stick is pivoted to a strap wrapped tightly about it and secured to the bracket. In a further embodiment a bolt extends through the stick and is provided with a lock nut which clamps a compression spring, surrounding the bolt, against the bracket.
