摘要 A Diesel engine has an intake manifold 10, an exhaust manifold 11, short and long EGR routes 50, 60, a charge air cooler (CAC, intercooler) 20 and a turbocharger 4 having a compressor 40 and a turbine 41. Regulating valves 52, 62, 63 enable control the flow rate of exhaust gas and the splitting of exhaust gas between the EGR routes 50, 60. The invention provides a temperature sensor 98 for sensing the temperature of gas at the outlet of the compressor 40. In response to the sensed compressor outlet temperature the splitting of the EGR flow rate between the first and second EGR routes 50, 60 may be regulated and/or compressor outlet pressure may be regulated using a variable nozzle turbine. The compressor can thus be protected against thermal stress and oil cracking. The temperature sensor 98, with ambient temperature sensor 99 and intake manifold temperature sensor 80, also allows monitoring of CAC efficiency.
