Liquid methane, oxygen or nitrogen is revaporized by passage through a sinuous coil 18 over which is sprayed water, e.g. sea water issuing from nozzles 36 supplied by a pump 37 in such quantity that the thickness of the ice layer so formed is proportional to the heat absorption rate and to the temperature difference between the liquefied gas and water streams. The liquefied gas, e.g. methane is withdrawn from the base of a supply vessel 10 and cold gaseous methane is warmed in a second water-heated coil 20, compressed at 22 and added to the revaporized methane leaving coil 18 prior to passing to a gas main 26. Each coil is of the trombone type having several banks of coils having adjacent turns connected by supporting ribs (Fig. 2).</p> |
