<p>A process for the production of carbalkoxy containing resins comprises initially polymerizing ethylene in a first reaction zone at a temperature of at least 150 DEG C. and a pressure of at least 800 atmospheres, said first reaction zone containing a catalyst of formula:- <FORM:0942265/C3/1> wherein R and R1 are hydrocarbon radicals, and then further polymerizing said ethylene in a second reaction zone containing a different peroxy catalyst. The preferred catalysts are diisopropyl peroxy dicarbonate and di-t-butyl peroxide. The description describes suitable polymerization apparatus wherein unreacted ethylene may be recycled and wherein ethylene feed may be introduced at several different locations. The products give film of improved printability, draw-down rate and blocking characteristics. Compositions with various waxes are referred to.</p> |
