PURPOSE: A method for heat-treating rolling elements for bearings and a rolling element thereof are provided to increase resistivity and dimensional stability and improve abrasion resistance and heat resistance by the formation of a uniform carbonitriding stiffened layer on the surface of a rolling element. CONSTITUTION: A method for heat-treating rolling elements for bearings comprises the following steps. A carbonitriding stiffened layer is formed on the surface of a rolling element for a bearing since a rolling element is heated under carbonitriding atmosphere at a designated temperature condition. The rolling element for bearings is rapidly cooled. The rolling element for bearings is heated again under preset temperature condition. The carbonitriding stiffened layer is homogenized through nitrogen diffusion. The rolling element for bearings is rapidly cooled. The rolling element is heated under preset temperature condition.
