PURPOSE: An apparatus comprising a bunch of water-absorbent materials for collecting a sample is provided to minimize the thickness of the bunch and to enhance capillary effects. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for treatment and diagnosis comprises: a bunch of water-absorbent materials; and a rod having a tip(16) covered with a bunch(20) of fibers to absorb a sample(10). The tip is covered with fibers in a comb shape of hydrophilicity. The fibers are rayon, polyester, polyamide, carbon fiber, alginic acid, natural fiber such as cotton and silk, or mixture thereof.
