In order to expand the area of application of a ticketing system that works based on virtual ticket, the invention proposes a method for operating a ticketing system, in which - a virtual ticket (5) is generated, - a user-dependent access code (6) is allocated to the virtual ticket (5), - the virtual ticket (5) is stored together with the access code (6), - the access code (6) is stored in a separate data memory (8), and in which the virtual ticket (5) is accessed by entering the access code (6) stored in the separate data memory (8) at an entry point (9) of the ticketing system (1) provided for this purpose.
