PURPOSE: A scanning optical apparatus and image forming apparatus using the same are provided to make brightness distribution uniform among a plurality of optical paths. CONSTITUTION: A first scanning unit(S1) focuses an optical beam polarized on a first polarized side on a first side to be scanned. A second scanning unit(S2) focuses an optical beam polarized on a second polarized side on a second side to be scanned. A polarizing unit(5) scans the optical beams of first and second light source units onto the first and second sides to be scanned in the direction opposite to a main scanning direction.
