A cooling device (1) is equipped with an engine (50) having a cylinder block (51) with a coolant circulating component (W/J511a) positioned on the periphery of a cylinder (53a), and a cylinder head (52). In the cooling device (1), the cylinder (53a) is formed with a cylinder liner (53), the cylinder liner (53) being constructed with a functionally gradient material formed so that the thermal conductivity at the top dead center of the cylinder is higher than the thermal conductivity at the bottom dead center of the cylinder.
