<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling an electric motor capable of providing a proper control parameter according to a load machine by simple adjustment, for precise and stable operation of a variety of load machines. <P>SOLUTION: The device controls the electric motor 16 so that a position of a load machine 20 driven with the electric motor 16 matches a positional command. The device includes a position control unit 12, a speed control unit 13, and a current control unit 16. It includes a control parameter setting means 23 which automatically calculates a control parameter used for the position control unit 12, the speed control unit 13, and the current control unit 16, based on a response setting signal that represents response speed to be achieved and a load machine type discriminating signal.
