<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device that further reduces a burden in character input. <P>SOLUTION: The character input device includes: a character input part; a kana-kanji conversion part creating a character string candidate; and a display part displaying the character string candidate. The character input device further includes: a document holding part holding an input document; and a sentence start decision part deciding whether a character insertion position in the input document held in the document holding part is located at the beginning of a sentence.
