PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for conveying a material to be conveyed by changing a discharging roller in a nip state and a release state which is ready for various kinds of materials with their length in their feeding direction being in a wide range. SOLUTION: The device for conveying the material includes: a cam drive gear 57 having a partial tooth part 109 having a tooth lacked part 113 for the release position, and a full tooth part 107; an intermediate gear 105 to be engaged with the partial tooth part; a planetary gear mechanism 95 to be engaged with the full tooth part or the intermediate gear by the forward-reverse rotation of the drive motor; and a mechanism 55 for changing the nip state and the release state of a discharging roller 13 according to the rotational position of the cam drive gear. In a state in which a second power transmission path 403 for transmitting the power to the cam drive gear via the intermediate gear is selected, a first power transmission path 401 is selected for directly transmitting the power to the cam drive gear by reversely rotating the drive motor, and the second power transmission path is selected again after the tooth lacked part for the release position is detached from the opposing position of the intermediate gear.
